looking back: Delta Site

I received an email from yahoo informing me that all websites made in geocities will be closed.  So I took one last look at the site I made back in 2nd year HS.  It was supposed to be my personal website for my 2nd year section, but it became a links page for Neopets freebies.  Hahaha.  I had fun looking at the tagboard, the people and the subjects part of the website.  I had the most fun with the subjects part as I read the description I made for each subject.  Even back then, I was sarcastic (e.g. "Have fun in Chemistry with its happy long hours of laboratory work and its very easy tests.  How could you not fail in Chemistry when it's this fun?").  And even back in 2nd year, Ian already occupied internet space (e.g. "Single-sealed organisms or single-celled organisms, that's part of our lessons in Health.  For more information about Ma'am Makara's pronunciations, just ask Ian O. Palermo.").

It was also fun looking at the love teams back in high school.  I'm pretty sure almost all or if not all of the mentioned love teams are no longer relevant.

LOVE TEAMS:
Jesther and Geraldine
Arjay MJ
Melvin and Keith
Paul Sheen and Marnelle
Neil Mark and Jerese
Zachary and Kristy

Here's the About Delta portion:

"Delta is the first section of the second year Pure Science Curriculum in MSU-IIT Integrated Developmental School.  There are two curriculums in 2nd year, the Pure Science  and the Applied Science, and both are science curriculums.  The sections in Pure Science are Delta and Epsilon while the sections in Applied Science are Zeta and Omicron.

People think that the students in Delta are quiet and serious.  Some of us are serious (*cough*Lolo Jesther*cough*) but most of us are not serious.  There are times when all of us are serious, like studying for an upcoming test or just copying the homework of other people.  Another thing, we are not quiet.  Well, maybe some of us are quiet but many of us are really very noisy.  Why is Delta noisy?  Fact is that many of the noisy people from the different sections in 1st year have merged into Delta.  I think that's all that I can say of my beloved section and hope you enjoyed what I wrote."

---> The way I wrote was so immature.  But then, weren't all of us very immature back then?

Oh yeah, the guestbook contained lots of very amusing entries like:

"What is your name?

Lingaw ... masuya lang ang masuya XP

Lingaw.  That's what I can describe the Tinago outing today.  Sure there were only nine of us who went (me, Kara, Jade, Dahl, Maan who wore a bikini, Sheryl Lyn, Vinn aka our driver, Ian, Martin).  We don't care because we had FUN.  Nine was just a good number of people that could fit in the van that Vinn brought.  It's a good thing that I decided to go to Tinago with them.  I was feeling really lazy the day before.  Too bad this blog post is my only documentation of the event.  But I'll probably steal pictures from Kara, Shai and Martin XD

The day started out slow.  I was the first to arrive at the meeting place even though I was moving more slowly than usual while I was in my house.  Jade and Kara followed shortly.  We waited 2-3 hours for the other people to arrive (*ehem*Ian*ehem*Shai*ehem*).  So we bought lechon manok, eating utensils, and drinks.  When we were complete, we headed to Tinago (but we had to stop by to buy 2 additional lechon manok, rice/puso, and to pick Dahl and Ma-an at Tominobo).

The fun started at Tinago.  After descending ~500 steps (according to wikipedia), we reached Tinago Falls.  Since it was lunch time when we arrived (see how late we were?  the call time was 8 AM), we ate the food we bought.  After that, we went to the cold waters of the lagoon.  We swam a little before we decided to ride the bamboo raft to reach the falls (and we rode it a few more times after that ;P).  We reached the falls and felt the heavy (and a bit painful) patter of the water.  We swam again.  Went back to the falls area to go through it and sit under the falls.  We had pictures taken (special mention to the vain people: Ian, Shai, Martin).  We formed a circle.  Some of us (including me) learned how to dive a little.  We swam again.  We finished off the leftover food.  We went to the falls area.  Basically, that's what we did when we were there.  We acted like we were the ones who were entirely new to Tinago Falls (even if we are pure-bred Iliganons).  It was really fun.  The only ugly part was when we had to ascend the ~500 steps so that we could go home.  I'd love to be there and do these things with my friends all over again (except for the stairs part o_O).

The last time I went to Tinago Falls was way back in grade school.  I just swam in the lagoon with my cousins.  It was still fun.  But the fun today is definitely better.

Happenings like this make me sad of the fact that I have to return to Manila.

Memoirs of High School (unfinished)

I
always sat by the window. The classroom only contained 2-3 electric fans. I was
outside the range of the circulating air and I could only get a few wisps of
it. A breeze would occasionally pass by and bring a wave of relief. One could feel the hot and humid weather the
most during math time in fourth year.
The period was right after lunch and it was perfect for siesta time. Ma’am Balberona, the calculus teacher, talked
softly. Her voice and the warm
atmosphere lulled some of my classmates to sleep. Ma’am Tenido, the organic chemistry teacher,
also caused the same effects on the class.

We
had a period of relaxation whenever a teacher was absent. There were also times when either afternoon
classes were suspended or all classes were shortened. That means a lot of time to waste. The boys in our class would sit on the
circular benches fronting the third year and fourth year rooms. Some would bring their guitars and the others
would take turns playing the latest tune.
A couple of boys from another classroom would join them and all of them
would jam together and alter the lyrics of some songs just for fun.

We
had many practices. It was for cheer
dance, pop dance, other kinds of dances, plays, and many more. The frequent victim of these activities was
Karyll’s house. It had a sizable garage
where everyone would assemble and do all the necessary tasks and routines. Even if we were not finished, the helper or
Karyll’s parents would arrive and bring snacks for everyone. The usual fare was banana cue, bread, or
pancit from Lai-Lai, to be accompanied by Coca-Cola. Some people who were not satisfied by what they
have eaten asked for a nibble from the plates of those whose appetites were
easily satiated. There were times that
practices reached until 9 PM or 10 PM.
Many opted to eat dinner at Karyll’s house. I would eat at my house since I lived
nearby. Karyll’s parents were hospitable
enough to accommodate and cook food for everyone. My classmates still retained a sense of shame
and they would buy eggs, instant pancit canton, or canned goods to eat for
dinner.

One
memorable practice was for the Science Month inter-section cheer dance
competition (plus points awaited us).
The garage in Karyll’s house was not big enough to achieve the proper formation
necessary for the presentation. We
decided to practice at JD’s place because there was a huge lot near their
house. It took a lot of persuasion to
convince the guys in our class to practice.
Only when Jerese cried did they relent to our heeds. We hailed a jeepney and all of us managed to
squeeze inside it. All of us still have
not eaten dinner. Some decided to buy a
bunwich from Dunkin Donuts or a burger from the canteen. We immediately practiced the moment we
arrived. The dedicated leaders pushed us
because the contest was only a day away.
It was 6 PM or 7 PM when Karyll cried because she was very hungry and
her body could not take it anymore. The
others also started to protest and all of us went to JD’s house to eat. Karyll contentedly bit into her bunwich once
we were there. A huge tray of instant
pancit canton and slices of cake greeted us.
Voracious eaters that we were, we devoured the food in no time. Jade grabbed the tray with a few bits of
pancit canton left and asked us whether we would eat the remaining food. Having our permission, she finished it
off. With our contented stomachs, we
practiced once more, and we eventually garnered a prize in the contest.

(I
notice I have been putting a lot of things about food in this part of the
entry… I must be hungry)

Still
thinking of things to add… Mindanao State University

to write

Writing
all of these is the only way I could evoke the memories and reminisce it, lest
they become forgotten or buried among the weight of thoughts and worries that
constantly bombard us. Truly, high
school was the time of my life.
