I was invited to attend the reception dinner for merit scholars so that I could talk (or brainwash) to incoming freshmen. It's refreshing to see the sight of hopeful young high school students who are about to enter college and seeing them so confused in choosing the school where they will be going to. It reminds me of my dilemma of choosing between Ateneo and UP during high school.
Three years ago, I was the one who was sitting at the table among Ateneo faculty and students. Steve Ladan (who became my dorm foster brother) was the one who talked with me at the table. He was the one who answered questions and talked about college life in Ateneo. My other companions in the table were Tanchoco, Darwin Yu, and Kyna (who will turn out to be my roommate come college). I didn't talk much with Kyna that time, only knowing her as one of the brilliant mathletes in MTG. Kyna and Darwin Yu were the ones talking with each other (Mabait at friendly pa si Kyna kay Darwin noon. Haha). I particularly remember that Kyna took Darwin's fork. When Darwin noticed his fork was missing, it was only then that Kyna noticed she had it. Her mom had to explain that she was left-handed and was used to taking her fork from the right side. Prim and proper pang tingnan si Kyna noon. She looked so formal and behaved... but knowing her now, di pala (joke Kynz!) :)) I think the blouse I wore back then is the blouse I wore today. Hahaha.
Fast forward to the present, it is now my turn to talk and answer the questions of some graduating high school students. Like me, they also come from a public school in the province, and are San Ignacio scholars. They're asking me what the dorm is like, if ME is hard, if the scholarship can be maintained, etc. It's rather nice to share your experiences with people who might also go through similar experiences. But it also shows that I am getting older. I am the one who is imparting the limited knowledge I have learned so far. And maybe in the later years, my name will be among the list of successful alumni that the dean will show to the future students... who knows? Hahaha
Naks naman Gels! Haha. And talagang nilait-lait mo si Kyna dito haha.
