a brief family reunion

Last Saturday was one of the few times that my entire family (parents+siblings+me) was together. It's only during the Christmas break that all of us get to be with each other.

MORNING
Dominic's college graduation (UP has two kinds of graduation: college grad and university grad) was from 7-11 AM (he was supposed to graduate last year... oh well...). Since each graduate was only given three tickets, I could not attend his graduation (I could still attend it, but only at the later part of the program - when they no longer check for tickets). The two tickets were for my parents while the third ticket was for Beth (his girlfriend).

I stayed overnight at my parent's room in the UP Hostel. I woke up at about 9 AM, took a bath, got dressed, and waited for my eldest brother. We proceded to go to the venue and took a seat (while searching for my parents, I noticed some people in the audience were asleep). We found my parents+Beth+Oliver seated near the door, and we also sat next to them. Some minutes later, the program was over. After the program, it was pictures galore. There were shots of Dominic+Iligan graduates, Dominic+Beth+parents (Andrei: sige... wedding picture na ni), entire family+Beth, Dominic himself, Dominic+siblings, Dominic+me+Andrei, etc.

LUNCH
After the picture taking, my family+Beth (hmm.. maybe Beth should already be included in "my family") decided to eat at Aveneto's. We ordered bottomless iced tea, pizza, seafood pasta, and pesto. For me, the lunch was sulit because all of us who ate were 7 and my mom spent less than P1200 for the entire meal. Dominic (who has an extremely loud voice) couldn't help but comment, "sulit na biya kay 7 na jud ta dayun mga P1200 lang ang gasto." Andrei couldn't help but remark, "i-announce pa jud nimo?"

AFTERNOON
When we finished eating lunch, we (still including Beth) went back to my parent's room in the UP Hostel. We rested and slept for a bit before parting ways. Beth and Dominic went to get tickets for the university grad, with Beth going to her tita's house after that. Andrei went home and then went to the gym. My parents+Oliver+me went to Megamall to grocery some stuff, buy clothing for Dominic (because he keeps on borrowing things from Andrei), buy shoes for Oliver, and buy a cake and ice cream for dinner at my aunt's house.

DINNER
My mom did not have enough money to take my aunts and their families out for dinner in a restaurant. Instead, we had dinner at my aunt's house in Mandaluyong, since she has a rooftop that is ideal for gatherings. My aunt agreed to prepare all the food, just as long as my mom will refund her for her costs. We had grilled squid, grilled ribs, sotanghon, lato (seaweed), shrimps, lumpia, chocolate mousse, and ice cream. Yum yum!

My aunt has two dogs, namely Britney and Paris. When I went to her place last February, Paris was still a small and cute puppy. I was surprised to see her larger than what I expected her to be. I know this is quite strange, but Britney is a lesbian. She wants to hump Paris (which she doesn't like at all). It is interesting to observe homosexuality within a dog.

My cousin Aiko asked my brother to teach her how to use Photoshop for creating a picture that has more than one subject in it, although it is still the same person (e.g., a picture contains 3 Angeli's doing different things). This eventually led to other lessons concerning layers and other editing tips. My aunt Bebe eagerly listened since she wanted to apply what she learned (her homecoming is near and she's sending edited pictures of herself ["bahalag sa picture lang niwang ko"]). My aunt Bebot also listened to my brother's "lecture" (aunt bebot: bisita ra jud diri ug usa ka adlaw dayun magsturya ta; andrei: bahin unsa pud te?; aunt bebot: sturya ta bahin photoshop. The latter part of the evening was devoted on Photoshop. At about 11+, we left my aunt's place and I got back to the dorm by midnight.

That pretty much sums up what happened last Saturday.

I'm the only student left among my siblings. Oliver had his university grad today (his college grad will be this May). Dominic had his university grad last Sunday. Both of them are officially part of the working class.

Here is how Andrei describes life in the workforce:
"Sauna kung naa si Mama sa Manila kay maka-save pa ko. Karon kay makagasto na hinuon ko."

argh!

It's rather fascinating to know that in just a span of one hour and fifteen minutes, I left Mindanao and returned to Metro Manila.  The next time that I get to return home is during sembreak   The summer break was just too short and I barely enjoyed it.  Now, it's back to student mode...  No more time for relaxation because I have to study once again

OT:  What are the procedures during the free-for-all registration?  How can I advance a subject?

back at my base

Well, I'm back in my provincial hometown . I'm currently typing this entry at an internet cafe (for P15/hour). I've got 20 minutes left. Looks like I need to make this entry short. I arrived in Cagayan de Oro last Sunday. I only had 2 hours of sleep (or less) because of the debut of my roommate. Maybe I'll write about her debut...

Claudia's Debut
My roommate turned 18 last March 30. She celebrated her debut last March 31 at Crowne Plaza. Coincidentally, Pam's debut was also at the same day and venue. But since I'm part of the 18 candles and since Claudia is my roommate, I chose to stay longer in Claudia's party. Since I don't have any digital camera, I don't have any pictures of that event posted here. So I'm just going to write an entry about it.

Needless to say, Claudia's debut was a success. That party was definitely a Claudia party (I'm making Claudia into an adjective). The singing, the dancing, and all the elements there were definitely hers. Kudos to her events coordinator for a job well done. Also, Claudia's gown was exquisitely made.

The part after the party was also enjoyable. Us dorm people were still sitting around and talking about lots of mundane stuff and had our share of camwhoring moments. I bet other people thought we were crazy. Oh well, let them think that way. After sometime, we went to Claudia's room and continued talking. Meanwhile, Kyna just ignored us and slept. Soon, the other dorm people left. So it was only us roomies + Claudia's mom in the room. After that, all of us started to sleep. But I think only Kyna got a decent sleep. The morning after, we went to the airport to go home.

Overall, that night was clean fun. I wonder what will happen in Mina or Kyna's debut.

Oops, looks like I need to log out soon. Till next time guys! :)

final stretch

Only one test left before my semester is officially over.  If I can ace that long test, I believe I can get an A in Physics *fingers crossed*.

One year of college will be finally over after that Physics long test.  One year of having useless English & Literature subjects (I didn't learn anything), having a relatively easy time in the NatSci subjects (as compared to what we'll experience in sophomore year), writing lots of crappy papers, wondering whether I made the right choice in choosing Ateneo, studying (hard) for Math (I merely flipped through my notes the night before a Math test in high school), living in a dormitory & being away from home for a very long time, meeting new acquaintances, and having new friends.  Things can change in a day, let alone a year.  I hope I still recognize myself.

Sophomore student.  No longer a freshman student.

Time does fly so fast.

thoughts as the semester ends

Today marks the last regular school day of the second semester. By that, I mean the normal day where people still attend their classes and see their teachers and all of their block mates. In just a few months, I will no longer be a freshman, but a sophomore student. I will no longer have classes with my entire English block and I will no longer have any NatSci subjects. To think that one year ago, I was just thinking about entering college and what kind of life I will have in Manila. But now, I am almost through with one year of my existence in college. High school seems like a faded, distant memory...

Anyway, the regional level for the Metrobank-MTAP Math Challenge just finished today. Unfortunately, the representatives from my school finished 5th for both individual and team. They had mental block while they were in the contest... so sad. Perhaps next year is the time that our school could rule the regionals, and possibly go to the nationals (and rule it, while they're at it). I guess I'm still living out my frustrations of not finishing first place in the regionals for both individual and team (our school only finished 2nd place for both team and individual... we were so close! damn carelessness ). I told my teacher that I would make my school proud by going to the nationals... too bad that didn't happen. Next year, I hope my school would rise above the challenges and bring home a really good bacon.

Yesterday, I realized that I still would not reach DL status. Although I don't care that much about being DL or not, I still do get affected by it (who wouldn't?). Here is my tentative grades (based on the advisory marks and known marks):

En101 - C
Lit14 - C+
Fil12 - C
PS1 - B (i'm just assuming this)
PS2 - A
Ma21 - A

I'd get a QPI of 2.97. Assuming that my PS1 grade would miraculously be an A, my QPI would be 3.13. Supposing that case is true, I need at least one letter grade increase for each language subjects I have (which I believe is impossible, since I suck in Filipino, and I'm not good enough for my English class) to reach DL status. Oh well, screw being a DL! As long as my QPI is greater than 2.50, I can still maintain my scholarship, and that is all that is important. Being DL is only an added bonus of my hard work(?). To myself: Be content! You still have your scholarship!

To finish off this entry, here's the product of all my studying for Math (along with having an extremely nice teacher) this sem...
