a modest proposal for a doomed planet
Ang sabaw ko na... wahaha! Be aware that I am not serious about what I am writing. I am somehow following the style of Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal"
The world is doomed. Look around you, and see the degradation of our surroundings. Global warming is taking its toll on the environment. The climate is changing at a faster pace. Things that were once improbable is now happening. It is now normal for a country to experience 3 or more terribly devastating typhoons in one year. The scenario of Day After Tomorrow, though exaggerated, is not far away.
Ecosystems in the ocean are at the brink of disaster. Mankind's growing population, along with the appetite of its people is contributing to this disaster. By 2048, seafood as we know it will be gone.
Our world is in a sad fate. The future generation will have to endure a more polluted and doomed place. Therefore, so as not to contribute to the increasing doomness of the planet, I propose that people should not procreate! Let the human race die. Let no child suffer the coming end of this world. The planet is doomed anyway, why agonize these children? To show my sincerity, I will lead by example! I will take a vow of chastity and I will cease to be a burden to the entire world. I am appealing to everyone to do the same! Do not marry! Do not reproduce!
It is only us that will enjoy the resources of this planet! Forget the future generation because there will be NO future generation. Do you understand my plan? It is brilliant! This is a better solution rather than worrying about what will happen to the planet. We no longer have to conserve energy because only our generation will have all the energy. Cut down the trees! Do not recycle! Use fossil fuel for your cars! Kill all those endangered species! With my plan, we will exponentially increase the planet's rate of killing itself. But we will all die first before the planet is entirely destroyed! And what will be left is a desolate planet. Yet who cares? No one is left to worry about it. No one is left to care for Earth.

of mangoes, FRIENDS, etc.
Yesterday was a rather full day for me. Not even one item was checked from my things-to-do list for that day. What did I do? I returned to my room at around 12:30 AM, although the dorm variety show was not yet over. I slept from 1:30 AM until 10:30 AM. I had an INTACT exposure trip the whole afternoon. My family-minus-father and I ate dinner at my auntie Bebot's house, and I was able to go back to the dorm around midnight.
My mother just came from Cebu yesterday, and she brought fresh mangoes, dried mangoes, smoked meat, and lechon baboy (not the bland kind found in Manila). My auntie Bebe decided to invite us to dinner in lieu of her job promotion (although the promotion was made two weeks ago)(Sidenote: To clear the confusion of why it's aunt Bebe who's treating us at aunt Bebot's house, it's because they live near each other, and aunt Bebot has a larger space at her house). So my three brothers, mother, and I went to Mandaluyong to have dinner there. Auntie Bebe prepared sinigang and grilled seafoods. My mother brought lechon baboy and fresh mangoes. Auntie Bebot also had a stock of fresh mangoes. Being a dormer deprived of home-cooked meals and fresh fruits, the meal was a sort of feast for me. I really enjoyed the mangoes since it's my favorite fruit. Sometimes, I wish I live at Guimaras, where I'll be eating all the mangoes I can eat.
After dinner, my cousins invited us siblings to watch reruns of FRIENDS season 7. I miss that show. It's one of my favorite sitcoms. While watching some episodes, a sort of epiphany came to me. The age of the characters when the show started was within the range of 23-26. Now my brother is turning 26 years old this year. Before, when I used to watch FRIENDS, I thought that those characters there are way older than me. Now, there's the feeling that I will eventually get older and reach their age. I realized that I will reach a time where I'll have a group of close friends, and we'll be talking about adult stuff like work and all that shit (another thing, I don't have that circle of friends yet). Also, I'm turning 18 this year. Damn! I will no longer be a minor, and I can be sentenced for death penalty (no, I don't have plans). Everyone gets old and I just hate it. I'm not supposed to think about things like this at 17, but considering the fact that I worried about what things to pack for college when I was in grade 2... thinking/worrying about the future comes natural to me.

over and gone
It's finally over! Math midterms you are gone! I am so relieved that it is finished. Tomorrow, it's time to relax and not study

Right now, there is a Lit paper I have to face. It is for a comparative analysis about two annoying LOVE poems.
Still, it feels so good that there are no more major things to worry about (no matter how short-lived the period of relaxation).
Now to get back to my paper...

a sea of C's
I got my advisory marks this day. Perfect description for it? A sea of C's except for one. However, two subjects did not have a grade (Ps1 and Ps2). Maybe my advisory marks could've been worse. Perhaps it would be a pile of CD's nought for one. On the other hand, my tentative QPI (excluding the two physics subjects) is 2.9. Note that 2.9>2.5. This implies that my scholarship still holds true since there exists a QPI greater than the minimum requirement. I think math is getting to me. Which reminds me, I have to study for math midterms.

answer to #5 of 03-04 Garces LT
One of the acute angles of a triangle is to have a radian measure of pi/6, and the side opposite this angle is to have a length of 10 in. Prove that, of all the triangles satisfying these requirements, the one having the maximum area is isosceles.

solution:
*by cosine law,
10=a^2+b^2-2ab cos pi/6 [note that cos pi/6=sqrt(3)/2]
d/db[10=a^2+b^2-ab sqrt(3)]
0=2a da/db + 2b - sqrt(3)[b da/db + a]
0=2a da/db + 2b - b sqrt(3) da/db - a sqrt(3)
da/db=[a sqrt(3) - 2b]/[2a - b sqrt(3)]
*A=1/2 base x height [base is b, h is a/2]
d/db[A=ab/4]
dA/db=1/4(b da/db + a) [da/db is equal to the highlighted expression]
dA/db=1/4(b{[a sqrt(3) - 2b]/[2a - b sqrt(3)]} + a)
set dA/db=0 to get a critical number
[ab sqrt(3) - 2 b^2 + 2 a^2 - ab sqrt(3)]/[2a - b sqrt(3)]=0
->a^2 - b^2 = 0
(a-b)(a+b)=0
a=b <- this implies na dapat isosceles ang triangle since two sides are equal...
or a=-b (we discard this since we can't have a negative value for a length)
(insert conclusion here)

a moment of reflection
Sometimes, there are times when one realizes life consists of a repetitive cycle of tasks. Suddenly, everything just seems boring. Tests, assignments, grades... for what? For jobs... and then? To work everyday of your life to have a stable and secure life... And then? What else? We'll all just die anyway.
Life just seems so monotonous right now. It's so depressing.

golden trip
This morning was spent at the home for the aged called Golden Acres. Time of departure from the campus of Ateneo de Manila University was supposed to be 7 AM, but the transportation was late. To top it off, some of the people from the block were late so the people had to wait for them. Actual time of departure turned out to be 8 AM. Girls were on one jeepney and the boys were on another jeepney. Our jeepney lost to their jeepney. The jeepney we were riding took the same U-turn three times (i.e., the jeepney driver did not know the way) before it found its way to Golden Acres.
Arriving there, a weird old man accosted almost all of us, asking for dole-outs. While waiting in the lobby, a weird old woman was outside staring at us. Later, the class was in the community hall with the oldies. The program started and some of the lolas and lolos readily went to the front to participate in the activities lined up. There was the Wowowee, Deal or No Deal, and talent parts of the program. Anyway, the winner of the Wowowee part was supposed to be the only player for Deal or No Deal. However, one lolo complained why she should be there. He argued that she already won. So the people decided to have two players. Lola-who-lost-in-Wowowee volunteered to be the other player. Yay! So much for rules. Due to the fact that oldies did not know the mechanics of Deal or No Deal and there was squabble about who should be the player, Deal or No Deal became Pera or Paper Plates. Lola-who-should-be-the-only-player got P800 while lola-who-lost-in-Wowowee got P1250. Hmmm... interesting. Since there was still money left, there was the impromptu talent portion. Lolos and lolas sang and danced old songs, while disagreeable-lolo-in-a-wheelchair constantly clanged the loud bell (good thing someone took him away from the bell area). After the talent portion, snacks were served to the oldies. Sadly, the food provided was not enough. Good thing the block readily brought food. Lolo-who-hoarded-things did not help in the shortage. After the eating part, some people from the block and the old people danced. And then the program ended.
Pardon for the fragmented way this entry was written. After all, this is a blog. And a blog can just consist of ramblings.

rather disappointing
The ACET results came out today and I checked it out so I could see how my high school fared. I wound up a bit disappointed after I finished looking at the list though. Only one person from my school got into the director's list. No one was a San Ignacio de Loyola Merit scholar. Four of those who took the test did not pass. On the bright side, two got to be 100TFD scholars while another one got to be a 100TFDA scholar. Also, two out of these three scholars chose BS Management Engineering as their course. I do hope these three people will choose to study in Ateneo so that there will be more people from my school in the campus. Besides, their tuition is free in Ateneo! UP's tuition is going to increase!
A mother of a third year student from my high school just called me to ask about the ACET since her child may join the AJSS (that is if he passes the test). It would be nice if he'd get into AJSS so that someone from my high school will finally get to join it. From what I know, no one from our high school was ever interested in joining AJSS. Until now. I really hope he'll pass. I've got school pride that's why I want my school mates to achieve.
I'd have to stop writing right now because I need to write my research paper. I'm really procrastinating. Must stop now.

a new year
A new year has arrived and school still sucks. Solution? Drop out! Wahaha!
Yeah right I will... Still, it never hurts to think about that... *sigh!*
